I received an email from Drew Shultz and I was instantly impressed with his accomplishments. He is an alumni from Shaker Heights High School's band program who has performed / written / toured / recorded / produced with a list of high profile artists including the Four Tops, Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Funk Brothers, and too many more to list. He is returning to Cleveland to take part in the "Sing Out!" benefit for the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, which provides support for victims of rape and sexual assault. Their June 9th event is a chorus made up of public figures in the Cleveland area, and he's coming back into town to play drums with them. Additionally, on Wednesday June 8th he will be giving a masterclass at the Mayfield Road Guitar Center to speak about the music industry, what it’s like to forge a career in music, and the new programs at DIME in Detroit. Additionally, he's currently working on a follow up to my 2012 Back To Class album, which donated 50% of profits to the public school music programs in Detroit and featured my original music recorded with legends including the Four Tops, Funk Brothers, Melvin Davis, Spyder Turner, and more. I was honored to hear from Drew, and could not deny spreading the word of his work and caring personality to get involved with helping others. Huge salute to him and be sure to support what he is doing!
