After this highly anticipated full length début EP with his new label, Ezri (formerly known as Ezzy) manages to place even higher expectations on himself which beforehand seemed impossible. Outside the studio Ezri has always done a great job promoting himself and his music by doing little things here & there like starring in independent skateboarding films & making appearances on Empire. After remaining relatively quiet throughout 2017, it seems as though there was some serious life experience that went into be right back. At first listen its clearly a project that stands out for its abstract sound and content matter. There are multiple deeper dives into his motivations being showcased throughout the album that artists typically conceal. The way the album is constructed is eerily reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid MAAD City, being told in real-time. Within these nine tracks Ezri seems to have done more growing up seemingly than a lot of people do their whole lives. The creativity in songwriting and lyrical delivery on display in tracks like “Johnny Dang” and “1/1” speak to why there is so much anticipation behind just about anything Ezri drops. The skills on display on be right back not only justifies getting the TDE & J. Cole cosigns but also the one of his entire hometown. Written by: Jordan Smith
