Clevelanders planning to ring in the new year in public square this year will spot a familiar face among the masses. The folks at Ohio Homecoming Group announced this morning that funnyman and Cleveland-native Drew Carey will deliver the countdown into 2014 for all of Northeast Ohio.
From 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Carey will broadcast live on CBS 19 Action News from downtown Cleveland, helping to usher in the new year with a salty joke or two. “Cleveland is home and I can’t imagine a better place to spend the New Year,” Carey said in a press release from the event organizers. “When I heard what the Ohio Homecoming Group was planning, and that they wanted me to be part of it, my response was ‘hell yeah!’ So I’m happy to layer-up and party on Public Square with my fellow Clevelanders.”
Carey joins the celebration after the recent announcement that popular electronic dance music bandKrewella will headline the Cleveland New Year's Eve bash.
The public square festivities kick off at 6 p.m. on the 31st and will feature food trucks, a beer garden, live ice sculpting, musical performances, and fireworks all leading up Carey's countdown. The event is free and open to the public.
